Armin Straube is a Research Data Manager at the University of Limerick in Ireland. His tasks include teaching and consultancy around open research in general and research data in particular. As part of the digital scholarship initiative of the library, Armin developed a Data Visualisation Lab and organises regular programming and data workshops for researchers, including a Summer School. 

Beyond his university experience, Armin is an RDA member involved in several WGs and a licensed Library Carpentry instructor and part of a national group aiming to upgrade the technical knowledge of library staff. He frequently works with the Arabic Counsel for the Social Sciences (ACSS) to train trainers for research data management in Arabic countries. 

Before joining the University of Limerick, Armin worked in various data roles for the National Library of Germany, the National Library of Qatar, and University College London. He holding master's degrees in archives and records management, history, and geography. 

As a research data manager, Armin has a hands-on frontline role in training and consultancy around FAIR data and has been teaching the topic to information professionals in his past role as a Teaching Fellow at University College London in Qatar (UCL) and for the ACSS. He is a co-author of the FAIR teaching handbook which was an outcome of the FAIRsFAIR project. 

Armin is familiar with a wide range of descriptive metadata standards from archives, libraries and museums, which was part of his teaching portfolio at UCL and has experience with DDI from the social sciences. 

During his time at the National Library of Germany, he was managing nestor, the German network for digital preservation. This gave Armin experience in organising a diverse community with 20 partner institutions from the GLAM sector, with various working groups. Part of the role was to be a reviewer and member of the board of the Data Seal of Approval (now CoreTrustSeal). He was chairing a working group on policy writing and implementation.
